On July 28, 2020, the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) voted to make the third sunset review affirmative final determination of industrial injury of barium carbonate imported from China, and ruled that if the current anti-dumping measures are cancelled, the substantial damage caused by the import of the products involved to the domestic industry of the United States may continue or recur within a reasonably foreseeable period. In the ruling, all five members of the U.S. International Trade Commission voted yes. According to the final finding, the current anti-dumping measures in this case remain effective.

On October 25, 2002, the U.S. Department of Commerce launched an anti-dumping investigation on barium carbonate imported from China. On October 1, 2003, the U.S. Department of Commerce formally imposed an anti-dumping duty on barium carbonate imported from China. On March 17, 2009, the United States extended its anti-dumping duty for the first time on March 17, 2009. On February 17, 2015, the United States extended the anti-dumping duty of the products involved in the case for the second time after the United States made the affirmative final determination on the sunset review of the above-mentioned products. On January 2, 2020, the U.S. Department of Commerce issued an announcement to launch the third sunset review investigation on barium carbonate imported from China.
